If so, can you confirm something for me?

My friend and I were arguing, and she seems to think that there were really animals aboard the lifeboat.

There were no animals aboard the life boat, in truth. The "animals" were the people, and a story Pi made up to avoid the realization of how cruel PEOPLE can really be.

Am I right?
